Prayer Focus on United Brethren Mission
"The new academic year at the college, and our fourth year, began two weeks ago. We currently have a total of 25 students from the following Indian states and other countries: Punjab 7; Jammu and Kasmir 2; Manipur 2; Assam 2, West Bengal 1; Bihar 1; Uttar Pradesh 1; Delhi 1; Nepal 3; Myanmar 3; S. Korea 2. Another 3 students are taking a break from their studies and will be back with us next semester. A difference from previous years is that we have more men than women: 16 men and 9 women.
Over the summer we had fewer inquiries about the college than I had expected. We have nine new students this year, as compared with twelve at the same point last year, although with more returning students. I am still not clear why, but one possible reason is the increase in our tuition fees.
The college is intended as a sending institution; a place from where graduating students will be sent out directly into missions work. Here in North India with many uncertainties and unpredictable factors that can sink the whole vision, only an inner conviction of God's mighty hand and irrevocable purpose keeps us steady and hopeful.
Spring Home, the children's home, is now full: four more girls were brought here last week, bringing the total number to ten. Sushma is doing a very good job at looking after them. Her cheerfulness and caring spirit are a perfect illustration of the sustaining power that daily prayer brings into our lives. In the near future, we would like to open more homes, probably for girls, as they fall into the more needy category.
The language school is still trundling along. We currently have one new teacher who needs training and lacks experience and only one student.
As always, I am entirely indebted to you for your unfailing support and help, of which I am daily conscious. Thank you very much. Every blessing in the name of Christ. Yours sincerely,
Alexander Macleod.
